Salt Pond GC

From the tee at the 16th hole

Heyo, hope everyone is having a good Masters week so far. After watching Justin Rose tear it up on Thursday and I just had a lesson on my short game, I thought let’s go and play myself. I decided on the Salt Pond Golf Club in Bethany Beach Delaware. The Salt Pond is run by the Home Owners Association making it one of the few like it in the country. The course itself is a fun mix of par 3’s with a couple of short par 4’s. You can walk this course pretty easy with a Sunday bag or ride in a cart – but it is cart path only. It was raining so I took a cart to get some cover.

My tee shot on 15 with a 8 iron

The round started off like most of mine do, no time spent warming up and tying my shoes on the first hole. Totally ready for golf. Might be a reason that I opened with three straight bogey’s. I got my only bird of the front nine on the fourth hole. Holes five thru nine I went par, bogey, par, bogey and par. At this point, I’m thinking to myself…..I can stop and get out of the rain or I can soldier on. I kept on – I mean I played in 27 degree weather this past winter, a little rain never hurt anybody. Also on the ninth hole I started to feel comfortable with my swing and the tweaks we had made from my lesson. I was starting to figure out the length on my shots and not hit them long. I won’t lie it is really easy to only play nine when you have to drive right by your car on the turn. But I love this game, so no warm car for me.

My drive on 18

As I made my way to ten, two maintenance guys were finishing up on the green. As I was waiting they waved me to hit. I got my 2 iron to the front of the green and as I approached the guys both said nice shot. Just a bit short on my birdie putt, but par was nice. Got par on eleven, birdie on twelve, back to back pars on thirteen and fourteen, then got a sweet birdie on fifteen and finished with a par on sixteen. From the ninth to sixteenth I played those eight holes at two under! That for me was my Justin Rose moment. I bogeyed seventeen and got par on eighteen to finish at three over. By far my best round ever. Before I think I’m the greatest and I’m going pro after one lesson, I will be the first to say it is a short course with very reachable par fours, but I did hit every green in regulation in that stretch other than nine so I must have been playing well. For this course I will do a hole by hole review as well, it really was a super fun course you could bring the whole family to play on and have a blast! You can check my Instagram for the videos of today’s round and don’t forget to sign up down below to get notified when new blogs come up! And as always, I promise to try and hit them straight but if I don’t I will yell “FORE”!
